When it comes to buying clothes for children, boys are by far the most difficult.  Although young girls are notoriously fussy, and it is frequently difficult to find a balance between suitable fashions – they always want to wear clothing intended for older children, such as teenagers and adults, boys are problematic in different ways.  Many boys nowadays enjoy wearing fashionable clothes, so parents have a hard time shopping for boy clothes too.  However, there are more considerations to take account of when shopping for boys.

Boys are always active, jumping, running, climbing, ducking, diving, swinging…you name it, they probably do it.  And, unfortunately, as many parents will be able to testify, these activities tend to have a significant impact on their clothing.  Boys frequently tear their clothes, engaging in rough play as they do.  They stain their clothes quite a lot too. 

So, when choosing boys clothes, one of the first considerations you should be thinking about is how durable the clothing is.  Are the clothes of sufficient quality, so that they can endure plenty of physical activity, is the clothing heavy-duty, and yet light enough for boys to play in?  Additionally, with all the washing the boys clothes will probably undergo before they are outgrown, are the clothes washable at high temperatures, they really need to be because stains are a very common occurrence with children’s clothes, regardless of gender.

Next, parents will need to consider the style of clothing most suitable for their young child.  When choosing your children’s clothing, think not just of your own personal tastes and what you would prefer them to wear, but consider also their own personal tastes and characters, and allow these to inform your decisions.  For instance, if you have a sporty child, buy you would love to dress them up in more upmarket attire, is this wise.  After all, they will not stop running around and playing sports just because they are wearing unsuitable clothing, these sorts of issues do not affect children in the slightest.  If you spend a great deal of money on beautiful clothing that becomes damaged almost instantly, it is just a waste.  Rather, you should be buying styles of clothing suitable for their everyday activities, buy nice clothes for special occasions, such as Christmas or family weddings, etc, but the rest of the time, allow them to wear casual, and hard wearing, clothing.

If your child is interested in fashion, then every once in a while, you should allow them to choose their own outfits.  More often than not, you will disagree with their choice of clothing – this is a common problem experienced between most parents and their children.  However, by doing so, you allow them to develop a sense of style when they are young, and by the time they reach teen hood, and early adolescence, they will probably have developed a sense of style that you agree with.  Allow them to make fashion mistakes while they are young, this avoids some of the rebelliousness associated with being a teenager.
